I'll break this down, but I'm sure it's going to be deleted (again.)
- Blight was never meant to be a non-testing shard.
- Blight consists of about 1/3rd the hardware of Order or Chaos.
- The current owners never bothered to pay the former contracted Server Admin. (Checks bounced)
- Since the purchase nothing has been done to the game outside of what can be done with a WM character.
- All data associated with a shard (characters, world, items, monsters, etc.) lies within the same database and is not easily separated.
- Blight is running a much newer version of the server technology than the old Unity shard.
- If EI or whoever only managed to acquire the "character" database from Unity, there's no way they are going to get it to simply "snap in" to the Blight hardware.
- So far EI or whoever has demonstrated no working knowledge of the server technology. Cases in point: No content patches (deltas,) deteriorating database on Chaos (needs cleaning,) and finally, the removal of the Blight shard which completely removes the possibility of any use of the delta process again.
- Unitas will never properly exist.
Why the current situation?
- EI or whoever currently has no visible staff outside a few WMs.
- It is not known whether these people are even being paid as full-time employees.
- Those that do appear to be full-time technical staff have not been present for some time.
- Community managers (see: Nagafen) have been absent for some time.
- A company buyout without a change in leadership usually denotes some sort of financial or legal trouble (see: AE turning into Tulga) However, unlike AE -> Tulga, no staff exist with any sort of substantial experience in running or developing the game.
- If a company is in financial trouble, the best solution is to make more money.
- Promises are free, employees are not.
- The longer EI or whoever manages to keep people subscribed, the more money they will make. Case in point: I've had to cancel three times already, yet my subscription keeps coming back. Rather than provide an option through the game interface or a simple web form, I must call Pay By Touch.
- EI or whoever can make a substantial amount of money from anyone still holding on to a "wait and see" attitude.
- Assuming that EI or whoever does not have the ability to develop the game or manage the technology, the best means of earning money is to keep those who are left paying while cutting all costs.
- Promises are free, development is not
- Enough people became attached enough to this game through the AE and Tulga years that they will play (and pay) for it until the bitter end.
- All EI or whever needs to do is keep these people hopeful for the future.
- WM-run events and empty announcements are more than enough to keep a handful of people playing.
- It is much more profitable to continue leading these people on than to invest time or money into development, especially when so little knowledge about the game already exists.
- EI or whoever will continue to run WM-based monster spawn events and make occasional announcements to keep player's hopes up.
- EI or whoever will NOT invest in development for the game, as those that are still playing have managed to keep playing after 6 months of no development.
- As shard populations numbers continue to dwindle, EI or whoever will begin to make larger and larger announcements while communicating less and less. Case in point: Now
- People will keep playing out of love for the game or hope for the future.
- EI or whoever will continue to make even more money without doing anything to improve the game. Case in point: the past 6 months.
